Jobs: statewide unemployment falls to 5.1%, Las Vegas hits an employment record

Nevada’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate dropped 0.1 point to 5.1% in June, down from 5.2% in May, as the state added 3,800 nonfarm jobs to reach 1,614,100 — up 2.3% (36,700 jobs) from a year earlier, according to the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation’s June report.

The Las Vegas metro area drove most of the gain, adding 3,000 jobs over the month (up 25,600, or 2.2%, year-over-year) to reach an all-time high for seasonally adjusted employment, the Las Vegas Sun reported. Leisure and hospitality added 1,700 jobs statewide, while trade, transportation and utilities, and professional and business services each shed several hundred, per the Las Vegas Review-Journal’s coverage. Nevada’s jobless rate still runs nearly a full point above the 4.2% national rate, FOX5 Las Vegas noted.

Housing: Southern Nevada median price holds at $490,000 for a second month

The median price of an existing single-family home in Southern Nevada held at $490,000 in June, matching the all-time high set in May and up 1% from a year earlier, according to Las Vegas Realtors data reported by Nevada Business Magazine and the Las Vegas Sun.

Condo and townhome prices moved the other way — a $292,000 median, down 4.3% from June 2025. Total sales (homes, condos and townhomes combined) reached 2,823, with single-family sales up 18.3% year-over-year. LVR President George Kypreos attributed the price plateau to tight supply: “Local home prices don’t always follow national trends, but they have been lately… [prices are staying at this level] in part because of our relatively tight housing supply.”

Gaming: statewide win tops $1.39 billion in the latest report

The most recent Nevada Gaming Control Board Monthly Revenue Report, covering May 2026, put statewide gaming win at $1.39 billion, up 7.43% from a year earlier. The Las Vegas Strip alone posted $807.9 million — up 13.19% year-over-year and the eighth-highest monthly total in Strip history — Yogonet reported. Fiscal year-to-date (July 2025–May 2026) statewide win stands at $14.7 billion, up 2.76%.

The Gaming Control Board’s June report — the first full month of summer tourist season — was not yet published at the time of this briefing; expect it in late July or early August. See how gaming win compares against the Economic Forum’s forecast once it lands.
